This is the software many companies use to crack down on piracy, and it often causes more problems than it solves for paying customers, without really preventing piracy. Perhaps the biggest selling point of GOG Galaxy (and CD Projekt RED's games) is the lack of digital rights management software, or DRM. I had a similarly hard time purchasing stuff through gog.com, and now that's no longer an issue.) This is nice for someone like me, who is absent-minded and, prior to the advent of Steam, had a very hard time keeping track of my games. (I have quite a few old-school titles in my account, and sure enough they all show up in GOG Galaxy without any fuss. Meanwhile, if you've purchased any games through gog.com they'll show up in the GOG Galaxy client, which is quite handy.

You can also rollback any updates, just in case, "so when the brand new patch breaks something (and yes it happens) you can safely return to the previous version."
